TEACHER ACCREDITATION/REGISTRATION

BY STATE/TERRITORY

NSW - NESA: New South Wales Education Standards Authority

  • 100 hours of PD over 5 years for full-time teachers to maintain accreditation (accreditation’ only used in NSW).

  • Priority areas continue to exist but no longer mandatory

  • Every teacher must keep records of their PD

  • PD (professional learning) must align to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST)

 

ACT - TQI: The ACT Teacher Quality Institute

  • Record and reflect on 20 hours of professional learning each year and upload to teachers’ portal

  • Must have completed 20 days of professional teaching practice every year

  • Professional learning activities refer to the APST.

 

QLD - QCT: Queensland College of Teachers

  • Renew teacher registration after each five-year period

  • Continuing Professional Development is Professional Development

  • Fully registered teachers to complete 20 hours of CPD each year (i.e. 20 days or more teaching anywhere in Australia)

  • CPD must have regard to the APST

  • Each teacher must keep records of their CPD 


SA - TRB: Teachers Registration Board of South Australia

  • 100 hours per five-year term registration - regardless if teacher is full-time or part-time

  • Registered teachers 60 hours of professional learning each 3-year term of registration

  • Each professional learning activity be linked to the APST

  • Each learning activity be recorded and aligned to the APST

  • Prior to renewal, teachers are required to upload their professional learning to the Teachers Portal

 

TAS - TRB:Teachers Registration Board Tasmania

  • Renewal application (TRB Online) requires confirmation of teaching service - past 5 years

  • Teacher has taught a minimum of 120 full time days in the last five years

  • TRB needs confirmation the teacher has participated in professional development activities,

  • No formal requirement from TRB to align to the APST

  • Specific quantum (hours) of professional development not required or stated

 

NT - TRB: Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory

  • Teachers are registered or authorised to teach by the TRB of the NT

  • All registered teachers to complete 100 hours of PD within a five-year period

  • PD activities support and enhance knowledge which are aligned to the APST

  • PD activities need to be recorded - teacher’s choice

  • Have completed 180 days of full-time service (teaching)

  • Teacher’s competence to teach is matched against the national Standards (APST)

 

WA - TRB: Teacher Registration of Western Australia

  • Renewal of Full Registration after each 5 years and with 100 hours

  • Full Registration with 100 days teaching full-time

  • Professional Learning Activities (for Renewal of Registration) based on 2023 Policy

  • Undertake learning activities which are directly related to the teaching profession (APST)

  • In WA the APST is called Professional Standards for Teachers in Western Australia

 

VIC - VIT: Victorian Institute of Teaching

  • All teachers require annual registration

  • Full registration requires teachers to teach a minimum of 20 days per year

  • Required to complete at least 20 hours of professional learning (professional development)

  • All professional learning activities are referenced to and guided by the APST and recorded

  • Professional learning activities are entered via the MyPD in teachers’ MyVIT (online portal)
